I don’t know how you learn about new apps for your phone, but I tend to hear about them from my friends. My new favorite is no exception.
My day job involves a ton of sitting and we all know that isn’t good for you. My work friend J told me about an app called Stand Up, the work break timer by Raised Square LLC . It’s free (always good) and it alerts you to stand up according to whatever timeframe you want.
You can set it to remind you from every five minutes to two hours. It can be set up to work in certain locations only, but I haven’t used that feature yet.
I set mine to every 45 minutes, Mon-Fri, during normal work hours. I try to actually walk around, not just stand up, when I get my alert. I feel like I don’t get as stiff during the day (from sitting for long periods of time). If you can’t stand up at that particular moment (maybe you are in a meeting), you can snooze the alert. The app tells you how many minutes until your next alert.
It’s pretty flexible in the days of the week, hours and intervals you want your reminders set for. There is an upgrade for 99 cents, which I believe gives you additional sounds, but I haven’t purchased.
I like that it is a really simple concept to enforce a behavior I want to continue. I give it two strong thumbs up!
Do you use this app? Are you going to try it now? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
