Something about the New Year always makes me want to start deep cleaning things I typically ignore. Is it because I notice them more when the decorations are gone? Is it having a little extra time off during the holidays? Who knows? But today, I took a look at my curling iron and decided it was too gross to continue using! I cleaned mine in less than 10 minutes and I’m going to show you how to clean your curling iron too!
If your curling iron is anything like mine, it endures a ton of abuse. I regularly spray product on my hair while using it and the results are not pretty! There was a build up of old product and hair spray on the barrel, as well as, the handle. Gross!
I gathered up some supplies I had on hand to start my clean up. All you need is some rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth. I used a white wash cloth, but I think you could use pretty much any clean cloth.
Wet your clean cloth with some rubbing alcohol and start cleaning your curling iron. The gunk comes off very easily. I had some burnt on stuff around the edge of the barrel and I had to scratch it off with my fingernail through the cloth, but the majority of the gunk just wiped off. It took less than 10 minutes to clean the entire thing.
This curling iron is ancient and I now have a squeaky clean, brand new looking curling iron! I didn’t realize how gross it was until I really, really looked at it! I think it is one of those items you don’t notice on an everyday basis because you use it so often, it’s always there. It’s just not something you think about until it doesn’t work!

Great to know that I can clean my curling iron! Mine is very old and I use it a lot… I can say that it looks a bit worse than this one on the first and second photo. I think that is time to clean it. Thank you for sharing!
