If you follow a lot of blogs, I am sure you are sick to death of the Nordstrom Sale, but it opens to the public today, so it’s blogger law I talk about it-HA. I too follow a lot of bloggers and I did not see many that featured plus size clothing from the sale. Because of that, I didn’t have much to reference when looking at the selections for myself. And our Pittsburgh store doesn’t carry much Plus size stock, so in store wasn’t an option.
Since I was pretty much flying blind, I decided to use a different strategy than I usually do. This time, I decided to just order a ton of stuff, basically anything that caught my eye, knowing at least half of it wasn’t going to work. Nordstrom’s free returns are a real plus for this very reason. Since I ordered everything on Day one of the preview, I have received most of it and have tried it on, so you get the benefit of hearing what worked and what didn’t! I also want to mention that my clothing needs at the moment are casual. I am in need of decent casual stuff way more than business attire, so my selections this time around reflect that need. Click on the link below the picture to be taken to the item on Nordstrom’s site.
First up is this floral sweatshirt. I saw someone wearing one this past Spring and have been thinking about it ever since (her version was sold out). So when I saw this one, I knew I had to have it. I bought the Gray version and it fits true to size. It’s light weight, so not a heavy sweatshirt-think lightweight sweater weight. I love it! Definitely a keeper.
I have this knotted shirt in the short sleeve version and I reach for it all the time, so I knew I would love the long sleeve version. I feel it’s roomy in my normal size, which I personally prefer, but if you are on the fence, order the smaller size. It’s definitely not too big, but those who like a more form fitting silhouette will want to go smaller. I bought it in red and it’s a deep rich red which is hard to find.
Next up is this plaid shirt. I wanted a black and white plaid that I could mix in with my Steeler gear for games. I am on the fence with this shirt. It’s not great quality and for the price, I think it’s probably not worth it. I would equate it to an Old Navy plaid shirt which isn’t good. Not what I expect from Nordstrom. It fits in my regular size, but it’s the kind of material that you know is going to shrink when you wash it. I think I just talked myself out of keeping this one! I don’t give this one a recommend. It’s cute, but worth about half the money in my opinion.
I was super excited to get this next item. I saw this convertible wrap sweater last year and never bought it, so when I saw it was part of the sale, I jumped on it. I am kind of meh about it, which makes me sad. It’s soft, great color, but when you wrap it all up, it kind of makes an arrow to your stomach. Not really what I strive for in an outfit, so it’s going back. Super sad. It fits true to size and the quality is nice. If it was a smidge longer, I would keep it. I love the idea of it being convertible and you can either wrap it up like a cozy scarf or wear it like a waterfall sweater, but it’s a no go for me.
I’ve had a Bare Foot Dreams Cardigan in my cart forever, but just couldn’t pull the plug. When I saw it was part of the sale, I figured, order and see if it’s worth the hype and if not return it. Let me tell you, it’s worth the hype. Literally the softest, coziest sweater I have EVER put on. I fell in love at first touch!! It runs big, but I am keeping it, just because it is the kind of sweater you want to be big so you can wrap up in it. Pretty sure I am not taking it off once it gets cold out. I got the black cause I am basic, but I was torn, I would get all of the colors if I could.
I saw these wedge sneakers on a blog and the blogger raved about how comfy they were so, I figured, what the heck, order them. I have to say they are cute, but I personally found them painful. They forced my foot into a weird position that just wasn’t going to work for me. They are a no go. They do fit true to size and are awfully cute. Shoes are just one of those things that one person’s comfy is another person’s painful, so they are trial and error, at least for me. Not helpful, I know, but for the right person, these are adorable. I guess my summary is, try them and see-HA!
Another item I am on the fence about. I fell in love with these booties and I loved how the sides were open so you could get away with wearing them now and in the fall. Now that I have them, I am kinda not sure about that side vent. I am thinking once winter comes and I have to wear socks or die, I can wear cute striped or printed socks and have them show via the vent, but I need to try that out before I decide if I am going to keep them. They also come in wides, so if you need a wide shoe, here’s your bootie for Fall! They fit true to size and feel comfortable at try on. I can’t vouch for them after a whole day of wearing yet, since I am on the fence about keeping, but they are really cute in person. The best part of them are that you can put them on without having to use your hands, maybe just my own weird requirement for booties, but I hate when I have to hold up the back of a bootie when putting it on, these I didn’t have to. Just me?
I wanted a long cardigan that I could throw over basically anything and this one fits the bill. Quite frankly, I really wasn’t expecting much when I ordered it, but it is much nicer than I was expecting. It’s medium weight and has a great shape to it. I liked that the hem curves away which is more flattering than most cardigans that are straight up and down. It runs true to size and I think is a great value during the sale. It was my biggest surprise in my box of stuff! Comes in a bunch of colors.
I actually bought this bag in the Spring, but it is part of the sale, so I thought I would mention it again. I love this bag. It is great for every day and travel since it’s a crossbody. It’s made of butter soft leather and has held up really well. It has a couple interior pockets and the cross body strap is adjustable. It’s small, but it holds a ton, I fit a full size wallet, a small makeup bag, sunglasses and assorted crap in it easily. Highly recommend and the Sale price is better than I paid for it.
I didn’t buy these jeans during the Sale, but I have to talk about them because they are so great. I bought my NYDJ Marilyn’s a couple years ago on a super discount and I honestly would buy them again full price. I just don’t spend big money on jeans, so when I tell you these are worth it, believe me! Again, I think jeans are like shoes and one person’s holy grail is another’s nightmare, but I love these! Definitely give the NYDJ brand a try. I have these Marilyn’s and absolutely love them, but they have a couple different styles in the sale.
Hopefully you found this to be helpful. There’s so much available during the Nordstrom Sale, it can be hard to narrow down what you need. Let me know if you have any questions and I would love to know what you score during the sale! Please share in the comments!
